2011 a year to remember,,,,including a pier caught Mako
Hello out there. Just didn't want anyone to think we have quit fishing so here is a re cap on 2011. Our count for the year can vary depending on who we count as our team. Tater, John, Joey and me wound up with 92 sharks over 5'. If we count what Bret, Jason, Jerry and Scott caught also the count goes up to over 120. Personally I have no idea how many I caught. I have handed my pole off to my son Jamie and Gradey Morrison several times. Brett Casto said he would post some pics for me soon as he can. Out of the count comes 3 bulls over 8', 2 nurse sharks over 10' , 2 tigers over 10' , one 7' hammer, one 7' mako, 5 tigers between 8' and 9' , several large sandbars and spinners. Jerry Purvis has a pending land based world record spinner shark at 7'5". We have came a long way in the last year. Our transition to circle hooks has proven to be a good move. Learning how to attach the hook to the bait is the trick. We have also figured out a way to lower the shark back to the water with a roap instead of throwing them off. Orca the RC kayak is the bomb. It's been very dependable to say the least. It has ran baits with 6' seas and a heavy chop. Ran over 20 baits in one day. I haven't paddled a bait in 2 months. No one loves it like I do cause it keeps me dry and warm and out of the rough surf. Fishing here isn't easy. I paddled almost 100 baits in a row with out a bite. We fish hard. Sometimes every day the weather permits. We are for real pier rats. I have been thinking on changing our team name to True Blue. Every one of our team members has made pier and shark fishing a life long venture, true blue fishermen. I think I'm Gona add Brett Casto to the team list. He seems to be a constant fisherman and he will fill the spot well. As for the kids we may have to make another team just for them. Cheers everyone

For me, the best shark that i ever caught, was also the first one that i ever caught - an over 9ft hammerhead shark on a Penn 4/0 NOT WIDE
That catch got me hooked FOR LIFE FOR SHARK FISHING!
It was the BEST SHARK FISHING SHOW that was displayed with as much as 5 shark fishermen from the most rookie ones all the way up to LEGENDS like JDHAMMER - unbelievable catch, adrenaline rush - what else can i say - it was the BEST SHARK FISHING NIGHT OF MY LIFE SO FAR!
Here is a reminder of that post: viewtopic.php?p=18053#p18053
and
viewtopic.php?p=18145#p18145 - where the hammer can be seen.
P.S. Did i mention the fact that - back then, being a rookie - that Penn 4/0 reel had the cranking handle on the left side?
Now that i'm thinking about it - no wonder what there was a need of 5 people to crank the fish in - 2 hours of fight.
